From steel to structure: HoSt’s biogas plant in Ireland takes shape
Construction Update: Outer Structure Nears Completion
Our crew was on site, completing the outer structure of the digester tanks. With this phase nearing completion, the next milestone is moving indoors: installing the core components before the roofs go on. It gives a view of the site that shows just how far construction is progressing, and how much more is still to come.
Turning Waste into Clean Energy
This project is a key part of the biomethane expansion in Ireland. HoSt is on site, realizing one of the country’s new biogas facilities, designed to convert up to 60,000 tonnes of waste annually, including dairy sludge and food waste, into clean, renewable energy. Using advanced membrane upgrading technology, the plant will produce nearly 6,000,000 Nm3 of high-quality biomethane every year, turning local organic waste streams into a sustainable fuel source that directly contributes to Ireland’s renewable energy goals.
The Core Components of the Facility
The scope of the project includes several core components that define the facility’s capacity and efficiency:
- Two primary digesters and one after-digester
- Two moving floors of 120 m3, including a blending unit
- Membrane biogas upgrading technology
Together, these components form a robust and scalable system for converting organic waste into high-quality biomethane.

Ireland holds significant untapped potential for biogas, positioning the country for substantial growth in its renewable energy sector. Realizing this potential depends on accelerating development through supportive policies and expanded gas injection infrastructure, allowing more biomethane to be fed directly into the national grid.
