A decade of decarbonization: 10-year anniversary of Wabico
Key milestones
Wabico started its journey in 2015 with the first successful injection of biomethane into the Dutch gas grid. Since then, the facility has steadily expanded and modernized to increase both capacity and efficiency.
Key milestones include:
-
New digestion capacity with the addition of a second digester.
- Biogas upgrading with a higher capacity.
-
Cleaner water thanks to the installation of a Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) for advanced biological purification.
-
Smart integration through a direct link to the nearby Waalwijk Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP).
- Implementation of CO2 liquefaction technology, which improves the CI score.
Wabico’s biomethane production has approximately tripled from its 2015 levels to 1,500 Nm³ per hour, resulting in a current annual output of 10 million Nm³ of biomethane. This is enough green gas to supply a remarkable 50% of Waalwijk, the Netherlands.
